Study Environment Day 2019 in Aalborg
Extreme makeover - study environment edition

IDEA DEVELOPMENT VIA CASES
The aim of the Student Environment Day this year (via case work) was to get the students' input on how AAU makes the areas the students use an inspiring place for group work, immersion and social activities. Starting from a concrete case in the form of a place that the students know from their local study environment (outdoors as well as indoors) or in the form of a general good idea that they thought needed an extreme makeover, their ideas became physical improvements of the study environment obtained.
The groups were given three hours to come up with good ideas for concrete improvements that can be implemented as an "extreme makeover" on the basis of the following criteria: The case had to be realizable, it must not take too long to make or be too expensive investments (max. DKK 100,000). Along the way, inspiration could be found in materials, furniture, pictures, etc. and there could be continuous sparring with members of the Student Environment Council and employees from Campus Service (interior architects, engineers/project managers etc.). The groups' ideas were translated into a product; some made a poster with sketches, pictures and text, others made models with LEGO bricks and various props that were available from the Study Environment Council and Campus Service - Only the imagination set the limits.
PRESENTATION OF CASES
When the time for the casework was over, dinner was served and the bar opened. After this, a panel of judges went around and were presented with the various cases. It was not determined in advance how many winners there would be.
The prize for the winners was realization of their case (worth DKK 100,000) and a diploma. In addition, the Study Environment Council and Campus Service took all the other good ideas with them, so that they can be incorporated into the future work with the university's physical study environment.
The winning group were students from medicine with an industrial specialization who won for the project Niels Jernes Vej 8A - Study hall.
