You must fulfill the following to be eligible for an Erasmus+ project-oriented course/internship
- You are a full-time student enrolled at AAU
- The project-oriented course/internship takes place in your 3rd semester of the master
- A project-oriented course/internship abroad is integrated into your study program and you obtain credits for a project-oriented course/internship abroad. An application for an advance credit transfer is required. Please contact your study board if you are uncertain about your options
- The minimum duration is 3 months and usually takes place during the autumn semester (September - December)
- You are responsible for finding a project-oriented course/internship
- The work assignments must relate to your study. It is always a good idea to talk about the academic content/tasks with the internship coordinator at your department

- When you have been accepted for a project-oriented course/internship an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships (contract) has to be prepared. The agreement has to be signed by you, the company/organization, and your supervisor/semester coordinator at AAU
- You must have proper insurance (both health, liability, and accident insurances are required), which covers you 24-7

Register for an Erasmus+ project-oriented course/internship in our online system
When you register, you automatically apply for a grant as well, provided that you register before the deadline.
Application deadline
The application deadline is 1 March for stays in the Autumn semester and 1 November for stays in the Spring semester.
Do remember that is it very important to apply for a grant before the deadline to have the chance of receiving a grant. You have to apply even though you may not know all the details and have all the required documents by this time.
Most likely you will not know where you will be going by the deadline for the grant application. However, you should not worry about that, because as soon as you know and upload documentation, we will place your application in the right pool: Erasmus+ (stays within EU/EEA) or the Internationalisation pool (stays outside EU/EEA).
Documentation requirements
You must upload the required documentation in the system as soon as possible and NO LATER than 1 June for the Autumn stays and 1 December for the Spring stays.
It is your responsibility to be covered by proper insurance during your Erasmus+ project-oriented course/internship.
Aalborg University has no insurance which covers students going abroad!
The Erasmus+ program has special requirements for students doing a project-oriented course/internship.
Do you need to take out any additional insurance
You need to find out if you are covered by the host of the project-oriented course/internship. If not, you have to take out the required insurance yourself.
In your Learning Agreement for a project-oriented course/internship (the contract) the host company/organization has to fill in a section regarding whether or not they will take out the required insurance for the trainee.
If you are NOT covered by the company, you must take out all the following insurances yourself:
- Health insurance
- Third-party insurance/liability insurance (covering both private liability and work liability; damages caused by the student during work at the workplace)
- Accident insurance/casualty insurance (covering injuries to the student during the traineeship – both at work and during spare time)
Please note: The European Commission requires all three insurance in case you receive an Erasmus+ grant.
The blue EU-health insurance card is not to be considered a travel insurance
If you are an EU citizen you may already have the blue EU Health Insurance Card, but please note the following:
- The blue card gives you access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the EU countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, under the same conditions and at the same cost (free in some countries) as people insured in that country.
- Cards are issued by your national health insurance provider.
Important information regarding the European Health Insurance Card:
- it is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover any private healthcare or costs such as a return flight to your home country or lost/stolen property
- it does not cover your costs if you are traveling for the express purpose of obtaining medical treatment,
- it does not guarantee free services. As each country’s healthcare system is different; services that cost nothing at home might not be free in another country
Take out the insurance before you travel
We recommend you contact your private insurance company to ensure that you are covered according to the requirements of the European Commission or take out the insurance with the company or another insurance company, e.g.:
www.dr-walter.com For Erasmus+ students doing a project-oriented course/internship abroad Dr. Walters has developed the following insurances: Pro Trip World; (combination of travel health, travel liability, and travel accident insurance) & Pro Trip World H; (work liability insurance for students).

The European Commission has developed the Erasmus+ Online Linguistic Support which offers students an optional - but highly recommended - online language assessment before (or at the beginning of) their stay abroad.
How to take the language test
The International Office will send you a link to the assessment to your AAU student e-mail. The assessment takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes and consists of questions regarding e.g. grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension with a total of 70 questions.
You can take the test if the company language is one of the following languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Greek, Polish, Portuguese, or Swedish.
The result of your language assessment does not prevent you from taking part in the Erasmus+ mobility. For Higher Education students, the results are not communicated to the company/organization. The assessment is provided by the EU/Erasmus+ program and serves only to measure the language progress made during your mobility period.
Offer: Free online language course
You will also be offered an online language course. The course can be followed during your mobility period. The language course can be in the same language as your assessment or in another language of your choice.
All students going for an Erasmus+ Traineeship must fill in an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships, which can be downloaded in your workflow in Mobility Online.
How to complete the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement
The agreement must be filled in and signed by you, your AAU department and your internship host.
Please note that a Learning Agreement consists of three parts:
- Before the Mobility - the part that must be filled in and signed by all parties before departure
- During the Mobility - this part is only applicable if any changes occur if you for instance are going to switch departments or if the end date changes
- After the Mobility - the part that must be filled in and signed by the host company at the end of your traineeship
Please note that both/all three parts must be uploaded to your workflow in Mobility Online.
When you register for an Erasmus+ project-oriented course/internship in the online system, you automatically apply for an Erasmus+ grant as well, provided that you apply before the deadline: 1 March for the Autumn semester and 1 November for the Spring semester.

You must upload the required documentation in the system as soon as possible and NO LATER than 1 June for the Autumn stays and 1 December for the Spring stays.
Fewer Opportunities top-up
In the Erasmus+ programme, a certain group of students can be awarded an extra top-up with the grant. The Fewer Opportunities top-up is 250 Euros per 30 days. For eligible students, this top-up is added to the ordinary Erasmus+ grant.
Students in the Fewer opportunities category
- Students with functional impairments, chronic or treatment-requiring disorders (applies to both mental and physical disorders as well as learning difficulties)
- Students with civic duty or called up for service in the Reserve (the civic duty or service in the Reserve itself must require attendance in Denmark during the same period as the student's Erasmus+ mobility)
- Students who are dependents or resource persons. It can be as parent, adoptive parent, carer for a sick family member, mentor, or support person. It is not a requirement that children be taken along on the Erasmus+ mobility
Information and application
More information is available on the Ministry of Higher Education and Science website (only in Danish).
You can apply for the Fewer Opportunities top-up in your workflow in Moblility Online.
Do your expenses exceed the Fewer opportunities top-up?
If you have expenses related to your special needs, that exceed the top-up amount (Euro 250/DKK 1.860 per month) there might be an option to apply for Inclusion Support via the Erasmus+ programme. For more information, see below.
Inclusion Support
It is possible to apply for additional support – Inclusion Support - for Erasmus activities for students with physical or mental disabilities, or other health conditions that make participation in an Erasmus stay not possible without extra financial support.
Please note that the need must be documented, e.g. by the fact that you are entitled to SU disability supplement or by a medical certificate.
Examples
Examples that could be eligible for Inclusion Support according to individual needs, include but are not limited to:
- Adapted accommodation (here you can apply for the difference/price difference between regular student accommodation and, for example, special disabled accommodation or single room)
- Travel assistance
- Medical Attendance (Medical treatment, physiotherapy or similar abroad or Medical follow-up)
Please note that these must be expenses that are extraordinary in connection with the study abroad and must be expenses that you cannot cover in any other way.
If you are awarded Fewer opportunities top-up, it must be expenses that exceed 250 Euro per month.
Information and application
More information is available on the Ministry of Higher Education and Science website (only in Danish).
You indicate if you want to apply for Inclusion Support in your workflow in Moblity Online.
PLEASE NOTE
There is no guarantee of receiving the Erasmus+ Inclusion Support. The application is submitted by Aalborg University to the Agency for Education and Research (the national Erasmus+ agency), which will process the application and determine the grant.
The processing times is typically 3-6 weeks.
When your traineeship is coming to an end please remember to do the following:
- Have the last part: 'After the Mobility - Traineeship Certificate' filled in and signed by the company/organisation before you leave
- Answer the online survey: Erasmus+ Participant Report. A link will be sent to your AAU student email.
The after part of the Learning Agreement must be uploaded in International Office's online system.
NB! For students who received an Erasmus+ grant: If you fail to do the above mentioned things, the International Office has the right to reimburse your grant.
Recent graduates may participate in a project-oriented course/internship and apply for the Erasmus+ grant under the same conditions as students, who are doing a project-oriented course/internship as an integrated part of their studies.
The following requirements must be met:
- The stay must be in place during your last year of study and
- The stay must be completed within the first year of graduation.
The application deadline is 1 March for traineeships in the following Autumn semester. The traineeship must be settled and an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement must be signed before graduation (1 June).
You can apply for a grant for a total of 12 months during your Master's degree and after graduation.
Contact the International Office to learn more about this opportunity.
